All or some of the following steps should occur automatically after you click one of the icons above. If you have problems, go to the troubleshooting section below.

Accept security certificates

A window may appear asking you to accept a security certificate from OANDA. Click Yes or Always to continue.

Open the application with Web Start.

Your browser will recognize that you are accessing a Java Web Start file (jnlp) and prompt you to select the appropriate application.

In the window that appears select the "Open with" option and make sure that either "javaws", "JNLP default" or "Java Web Start default" is selected in the drop down list. Then click OK.

You may need to locate the Java Web Start application, javaws.exe, in your local java directory. This file can usually be found in one of the following directories:

On Windows:    C:\Program Files\Java\[java version]\bin or C:\Program Files\Java\[java version]\javaws

On Linux:    /usr/java/[java version]/bin or /usr/java/[java version]/jre/javaws

Wait for the application to download.

A series of windows appear indicating that Java Web Start is downloading and starting the application.

Create the desktop shortcuts.

After the application is loaded, you are typically prompted to create a desktop shortcut:

Click Yes to add a shortcut to your desktop.

Troubleshooting: What if the desktop icon wasn't installed?

Occasionally Java Web Start may not automatically install desktop shortcuts.

In this case, you can install desktop shortcuts manually from the Java Web Start Application Cache Viewer.

You can open the Java Web Start Application Cache Viewer in one of the following ways:

From the Control Panel:

On Windows:    Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Java

On Linux:    Launch the control panel from the menu or from the ControlPanel executable file located at [Java installation directory]/bin/ControlPanel

From the Javacontrol panel, select the General tab and click on Settings in the Temporary Internet Files section.

This will open the Temporary File Setting Dialog. Click the View Applications button to launch the Application Cache Viewer.

From the command prompt:

From the command prompt, type "javaws -viewer"

Once the Java Web Start Application Cache Viewer is open, right-click on the appropriate item and select Install Shortcuts from the menu.
