Indicators

Indicators are plotted underneath the price curve to help you interpret market trends. OANDA's FXTrade user interface supports the following indicators.

ADX: Average Directional Index
An average index taken over a range of periods, widely believed to confirm the presence of a price trend.
AO: Awesome Oscillator
A histogram showing market momentum for a recent number of periods compared to a larger number of previous periods.
ATR: Average True Range
An average of true range values are taken over a certain period to indicate volatility.
CCI: Commodity Channel Index
Calculates price variations from their statistical mean. A variation on standard deviation (but calculated differently).
Fast Stochastic
Two oscillating lines that show price momentum. One line shows the location of the current close price relative to the high/low range over a set number of periods; the other line is a simple moving average.
Full Stochastic
A variation on fast and slow stochastics, with an additional smoothing parameter to make it more flexible.
MACD: Moving Average Convergence/Divergence
A simple oscillating indicator considered particularly effective in wide-swinging markets.
Momentum
Shows how fast rates are changing and possible changes in direction.
ROC: Rate of Change
An oscillator designed to measure the rate of price change.
RSI: Relative Strength Index
An oscillator showing the relative changes between the higher and lower prices.
Slow Stochastic
Two oscillating lines that show price momentum. Similar to the fast stochastic, but the lines are smoothed to hint at underlying market sentiment.
Standard Deviation
Plots the difference between closing prices and average prices over a number of time periods.
Stochastic RSI
An oscillator that varies between 0 and 1, representing the level of the RSI indicator relative to its range over n periods.
Ultimate Oscillator
An oscillator that smooths out variations by weighting the sums of three oscillators covering three distinct time frames.
Williams %R
An oscillator showing the closing price relative to the total price range of n periods, similar to stochastic oscillators but plotted upside-down in the negative range.
